Root Canal (Endodontic Therapy)

When the nerve or pulp of a tooth becomes affected by decay, inflammation, or infection root canal therapy is necessary. A tooth that requires root canal may have symptoms including sensitivity to temperature and pressure when biting down. Local anesthetic is administered for a root canal so the patient does not feel any pain. During the procedure, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed. The hollowed canals are then carefully cleaned, shaped, and filled and the tooth is sealed with a temporary filling. Following a root canal, the tooth requires a post and a crown to restore its strength, functionality, and appearance. Dr. Dressel performs root canals in one visit in under an hour. For complicated root canals or for the re-treatment of an existing root canal, there is an endodontist available in the office weekly.
